Framing Assignment

This was my first timing ever hearing about or learning about the rule of thirds.  It was really interesting to look through my photos and recognize that the ones that were most appealing where those using some kind of framing tool.  I definitely found that I like some where the subject was centered, as it emphasized the message or idea of the photo.

  1. Kristin, I found this to be something I had never heard of either, yet now each time I take a photo and thinking of that element to make sure it will present in a more pleasing way in my photos and helps to balance out the photographs and add definition.

How did you put it into a slide show?

  3. I had the hardest time figuring out the slideshow...but finally realized that it would work if I actually followed Lisa's directions...I did it by loading my photos in Picassa and then copying the html onto my blog.

  4. Great framing on the shot from inside the tent looking out into the cold, I also thought the side mirror shot was neat all attention focuses on the mirror.

  5. You have some real classic framing shots here: the tent as already mentioned, the tree branches framing the landscapes, the mirror one Tom pointed out. Really cool. I'm surprised to hear you say you like things centered as some of your best shots are almost perfect Rule of Thirds. You might be missing the point with Rule of Thirds. It makes the image more dynamic, thus draws the eye. By weighting the image like that the balance has movement. There are always exceptions to every rule, really good ones, but the point is to know the "rules" then consciously break them :-)

  6. Kristen, I love the shot of the person standing by the lake shore, using the RofT made it show how vast the landscape around them was.

  8. Wow, I really like the photo of your car mirror. That was pretty cool. I like that the car is just a dark image that blends into the background and that the mirror is really highlighted. Good thinking!

  10. Your photos are really cool Kristin. I think you have both examples of our framing and our Roft assignments this week. Looks like you are very active with camping and snowboarding! Certainly are having a winter for that. Nice job.
